Why black fungus infection is happening in corona patients, AIIMS director Guleria explains the reason, this connection with steroids
Coronas are coming out in the case of fungal infection among the havoc. Fungal infections are more common in corona patients. AIIMS director Randeep Guleria said that the fungus infection was very rare at first. It was seen in people with high sugar, diabetes uncontrolled, low immunity, or cancer patients who are on chemotherapy. But today more cases are coming up. Along with this, Dr. Guleria said that black fungal cases are coming due to excessive use of steroids.
Increased cases of fungal infection
Dr. Guleria said that fungal infections were not commonly found in common people but due to corona, its cases are coming up quite a lot. There are 23 cases of fungal infection in AIIMS itself. Of these, 20 are still corona positive and 3 are corona negative. There are many states where there are 400–500 cases due to fungal infection. They reported that fungal infection can occur on the eyes, nose, throat, lungs. This causes eye-light, blood from the nose and chest pain, fever, if reached in the lungs.
More danger than steroids
Dr. Guleria stated that the misuse of steroids is one of the leading causes of fungal infections. Those with corona infections with diabetes will be at a higher risk of fungal infection if they are being given steroids. Therefore, the misuse of steroids has to be reduced. Patients who have mild infections and those who do not have low oxygen levels, are less likely to benefit from giving steroids.
