Lord Sri Narsingh (Fourth Incarnation of Lord Vishnu)

Lord Narasimha (Vishnu) is considered to be the fourth incarnation.  They broke the pillar and came out to protect Prahlad.

After Lord Vishnu killed Hiranyaksha in the form of a pig, Bhai Hiranyakashipu performed a very hard penance on the Mandrachal mountain.  Brahma was pleased with his warmth and asked for blessings.  Hiranyakashipu demanded to be invincible over the three heavens, the earth and the abyss, as well as not to be killed by human, animal, deity, demon or any other creature or by weapon.  Home or outside, day or night, earth, sky, I will not die anywhere.

After receiving such a blessing from Brahmaji, Indra feared that another demon would be born from Kayadhu, the pregnant wife of this demon.  So Indra kidnapped Kayadhu.  Narad Muni released him and kept him in his ashram.  In the ashram, Narad Muni was narrating to Kayadhu, preaching the religion.  Devotee Prahlad was born under the influence of this teaching.  Prahlad became a perfect devotee as he got the story-telling of Narad and the devotional atmosphere of the ashram in his womb.

On this side Hiranyakashipu was furious at God for killing his brother Hiranyaksha and kidnapping his wife.  Hiranyakashipu continued to treat his black care on Trilok.  The gods of the heavens and the people of the earth were overwhelmed by his torment.  One day after returning from Narad Muni's ashram, Hiranyakashipu asked his five-year-old son Prahlad, "Son, what do you like?"  Then child Prahlad said, "I like to go to the forest and worship Shrihari."  Hearing this, Hiranyakashipu blushed with anger.  He sent his son Prahlad to study with the sons of Shukracharya, the giant of demons, Shanda and Amark.

When the child Prahlad returned home after completing the study of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha, the father asked, 'Son, what did you learn from Guru?'  Hearing the praise of Lord Vishnu from Prahlad's mouth, Hiranyakashipu's heart raced with anger.  He told his followers, "Kill this.  This is not my son, but a supporter of my enemy.  So the Asuras started piercing Prahlada with weapons.  But the weapons turned in the other direction, if they hit the sword, it was cut to pieces and the trident became crooked.  If poison is given, it becomes nectar.  When the venomous snake was released, it spread its fangs on Prahlad's head and became an umbrella.  Thus each time the Lord did not allow him to come.  Went to defend him.  So Prahlad became more and more absorbed in domination.

Finally, Hiranyakashipu gave a garment to his sister Holika and said, "If you put on this garment, put Prahlad in your lap and sit in the fire, then this garment will not touch you and Prahlad will be burnt and consumed."  Holika's clothes flew away sitting in the fire.  It was burnt and consumed and Prahlad smiled and sat there.  All were amazed.  Our culture still celebrates this occasion as Holi.

Prahlad's fearlessness and dominance surprised everyone.  Rajsevaks started preaching Rajdharma to Prahlad but Prahlad was singing the praises of Hari by talking about Haribhakti.  So Hiranyakashipu became enraged and asked Prahlad, 'By what force do you disrespect me?' He said, 'Whose force is pervasive.' The father asked, 'Where is your Lord?'  It is everywhere. '

Eventually, exhausted, Hiranyakashipu lit a huge fire around an iron pillar, making it a burning red.  The father said to his son, "Joe, if there is a god in this pillar, then you should bathe this pillar."  From the pillar, the real Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of Narasimha.  It was evening, not day or night.

Lord Narasimha took Hiranyakashipu in his lap between the thresholds of the house i.e. not in the house and not even outside, with his nails without weapons, not as a male or an animal but as the head of a lion  Suvadi scratched his body with nails.

Thus Shri Hari assumed the incarnation of Narasimha to protect his child devotee Prahlad.  At Prahlada's request, the Lord granted Hiranyakashipu salvation.  This day was Vaishakh Sud Chaudash which we celebrate as Narasimha Jayanti
