 Under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Ujala Yojana, LED bulbs will be distributed to the families of rural areas for Rs.10 each.  About three to four LED bulbs will be provided to each family under this scheme.  Pradhanmantri Gramin Ujala Yojana 2022  will be launched by Public Sector Energy Efficiency Services Limited next month in rural areas of five cities of the country including Varanasi.  By April, this scheme will be implemented across India.

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Ujala Yojana was launched by the Ministry of Power on 5 January 2015.  The announcement to start this scheme was made by the Prime Minister of our country, Narendra Modi.  Through this scheme LED bulbs are provided to the citizens of the country.  Pradhan Mantri Gramin Ujala Yojana has completed 7 years on 5th January 2022.  The scheme is the world's largest zero subsidy home lighting program.  In which more than 36.78 crore LEDs have been distributed across the country.  Energy savings of 47778 million kWh per annum has been achieved till January 5, 2022.  In addition, peak demand of 9747 MW has been avoided with a reduction of 360 million tonnes in CO2 emissions.  72.09 lakh LED tube lights and 23.41 lakh energy efficient fans have been distributed through this scheme.

•  Due to this scheme, an estimated annual savings of Rs.19156 crore has been made.  The purchase price of LED bulbs has also registered a decline due to this scheme.  The technical specification of the LED bulb being distributed has been increased from 7V to 9V and from 85Lumen to 100Lumen.
•  The benefit of this scheme has been availed by more than 9 crore consumers so far.  Information about this program is broadcast on the official website.  In addition, LED bulbs are procured through open e-bidding process.

 Savings under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Ujala Yojana

 PM Gramin Ujala Yojana 2022 will be implemented in a phased manner which includes Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Ara in Bihar, Nagpur in Maharashtra, Vadnagar in Gujarat and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.  Pradhanmantri Gramin Ujala Yojana 2022 will save about 9324 crore units of electricity annually.  While 76.5 million tonnes of annual carbon emissions will be reduced.  50000 crores will be saved annually through this scheme.  No subsidy will be taken from the central or state government for this scheme.  Whatever expenditure will be incurred under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Ujala Yojana, EESL will do it.  The cost of this scheme will be recovered through carbon trading.

 Last launch of UJALA program

 NTPC, PFC, REC and Power Grid joint venture company has distributed more than 36.50 crore LED bulbs under the UJALA program at the rate of ₹70 per bulb.  Out of which only 20% of the bulbs have reached rural areas.  Tube lights, energy efficiency fans, street lights, smart meters, electronic vehicles, EV charging etc. are also included under the UJALA program.
